Canones Creek Ranch on the Chama River

Description

Cañones Creek Ranch consists of a gorgeous 518± acres, blessed with 1.25± miles of both sides of the Chama River in northern New Mexico. The ranch enjoys world-class fly fishing due to the trout habitat-enhanced portion of the river that courses through it. The large Pavillion fishing pond holds very large fish that can winter in the pond’s depths.

Fly fishing is a prominent feature, but the opportunity to hunt elk or mule deer cannot be overlooked. The ranch borders the undeveloped acreage of the Jicarilla Apache Nation and the great elk and mule deer habitat on those lands. Elk and mule deer routinely visit the ranch’s hayfields and the ranch section of the river to feed and water. The ranch is eligible for and has received multiple hunting vouchers. In the early fall, it is not unusual at Cañones Creek Ranch to hunt elk or mule deer in the morning and fish for large brown and rainbow trout for the remainder of the day.

There is more than just the first-class recreational aspects of the ranch. Substantial water rights lead to excellent hay production and cattle grazing, providing income to help offset ranch costs. The farm work can be done hands-on or by retaining the existing hay and grazing leases. The improvements include a modest and recently remodeled home, a separate apartment, and a garage. At a time when live water fishing properties are hard to find, a rare recreational opportunity awaits the buyer of this gold medal retreat.
